There are several reasons behind this, the most important being the fear of remaining unmarried, and sometimes it stems from the woman’s own desire to marry a foreign man if she sees him as a suitable partner. As we know, the Saudi Arabian government encourages marriage between Saudis and foreigners. The government stipulates that the marriage must be to a Gulf national or a foreign national residing outside the Kingdom.
What are the conditions for Saudi women to marry a Gulf citizen or a foreigner outside the Kingdom?
A Saudi woman must meet certain requirements before her marriage to a foreigner becomes legal. These requirements are:
You must be between 25 and 50 years old to apply for a marriage to a foreign national. The age difference between the two parties must not exceed 15 years. The applicant’s guardian must submit the application to the governor of the region to which they belong, and the applicant must not be engaged to another Saudi woman.
These are the general conditions for a Saudi woman marrying a foreigner. In the case of a Saudi woman marrying a foreigner outside the Kingdom, the Saudi government has established certain conditions, including:
Applicants must be at least 25 years old, and female applicants must be at least 21 years old. Applicants must not be married or in a relationship with a resident of Saudi Arabia.
The person wishing to marry must have completed their studies. The applicant must have a stable job, and their monthly income must be at least 3,000 riyals or its equivalent in the local currency.
Conditions for a Saudi woman marrying a foreigner: Marriage to a Gulf national (i.e., a citizen of a Gulf Cooperation Council country) is possible, but there are conditions that must be met:
Passports of the couple: The bride must be at least twenty-five years old, but she may be older if the groom was not born in the Kingdom.
The age difference between applicants must not exceed fifteen years. A marriage certificate proving the applicant is free from disease and demonstrating their physical fitness for marriage must be provided.
The wife must obtain a certificate of no objection to the marriage, and this must be added to the marriage certificate during the embassy review process. The wife must also obtain a certificate clarifying her marital status.
This certificate indicates whether she was previously married, single, or divorced. The prospective groom must not have been previously married to or divorced a Saudi woman and must sign and provide fingerprints on a declaration stating that he has not been previously married to a Saudi woman. Two Saudi witnesses are also required, along with a copy of his national ID and the signatures of two Saudi nationals.

Psychological and family consultant Dr. Zahra Al-Mu’abi indicated that she encourages Saudi women to marry foreigners, especially in light of the new regulations that stipulate treating the children of Saudi women as citizens, while granting the mother custody, which ensures her children remain with her even in the event of separation. Al-Mu’abi stated that the recent trend among Saudi women to marry foreigners stems from several reasons, including the perception that “a foreigner is more easygoing than a Saudi husband.”
